Global progress on food system goals is falling short of 2030 targets, according to the Food Systems Countdown Report 2026, which finds that the pace and scale of change remain insufficient across nearly every measured indicator.
The assessment, titled Food Systems Countdown Report 2026: Assessing Performance, Driving Change, concludes that while the 2030 goals are at risk of being missed, the 2050 horizon could still be within reach — provided that actions are consistent and significantly accelerated from current levels.
The report was produced with involvement from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), among others.
